Thomas E. Schultis, 73, a resident of rural Churubusco near Blue Lake, passed away on Saturday afternoon, August 3, 2013, from the results of a two vehicle accident on State Road 205 near LaOtto in DeKalb County. Mr. Schultis was born on August 2, 1940 in Cleveland, Ohio, a son of Earl Vincent and Florence Catherine (Conner) Schultis. He moved to Marysville, Ohio as a child with his parents, and in 1953 the family moved to Auburn. He graduated from Bellefountain High School in Hamilton in 1958, and as a young man served with the U. S. Army. A former employee of Bohn Aluminum and Brass in Butler, Auburn Automotive, and Dana Weatherhead Division in Columbia City, he retired in 2003 as a process engineer with Dana Corporation in Fort Wayne. He was a member of the Gilbert Davis American Legion Post 157 in Churubusco, was past president of the Blue Lake Association, was an avid golfer, and enjoyed playing pool. Tom will be remembered as a loving, giving, and supportive man who was dedicated to his family and community. On June 29, 1974 he was married in Churubusco to Laura L. Martin. She survives. Also surviving are his children Deanna Garcia of Columbia City, Michael (Sarah) Schultis of Kendallville, Joseph (Kristen) Schultis of Auburn, Lisa Krill of Collins, Angelica Schultis of Valparaiso, Robert Schultis of Fort Wayne, and Christopher Schultis and Vincent Schultis, both of Churubusco; two sisters Margaret (Richard) Scher of Huntington and Mary Ann Koons of Spencerville; a brother James (Diana) Schultis of Albion; 14 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother Jack Schultis; a brother-in-law Richard Koons; and a great-granddaughter Kassidy Garcia. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a. m. on Thursday, August 8, 2013, at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church at Ege. The family will receive friends at the Sheets & Childs Funeral Home in Churubusco on Wednesday from 2 to 8 p. m. The Holy Rosary will be recited at 8 p. m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Interment will be in the Ege Catholic Cemetery, Noble County.
