Tommy Hagerman

Tommy R. Hagerman, 68, a resident of rural Ligonier, died at 12:13 a. m. on Monday, October 1, 2007, at Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne. He had been a patient there since Thursday. Mr. Hagerman was born on May 25, 1939 in Jolo, West Virginia, a son of Rosevelt and LouVicy (Vance) Hagerman, and moved from Paynesville, West Virginia to Noble County nine years ago. A coal miner by trade, he was forced to retire in 1986 due to ill health after 28 years of employment with the Pittson Coal Company in Jewel Ridge, Virginia. He was a minister at the Bright Morning Star Baptist Church (Tom Sparks Cemetery Church) at Paynesville, and had been the moderator of the Rock of Ages Church of Love in Ligonier. In his leisure time he enjoyed fox hunting, riding four-wheelers, and most especially enjoyed his children and grandchildren. His marriage took place in Paynesville, West Virginia on April 19, 1958 to Leah Hicks. She survives. In addition to his widow, surviving are six sons Allen (Mary) Hagerman, Stephen (Nancy) Hagerman, Jeffrey (Betty) Hagerman, and Michael (Stephanie) Hagerman, all of Paynesville, WVa., Anthony (Chrissy) Hagerman of Ligonier, and Aaron (Shannon) Hagerman of Chicago; five daughters Ann (Ron) Marshall of Auburn, Sherry (Luther) Hagerman of Ocala, Fla, Carolyn (Ernest) Vance of Albion, Deleah (Dennis) Ratliff of Topeka, and Tommi Jo (Estil) Pruitt of Ligonier; and a daughter-in-law Tiffany Hagerman of Ligonier. Also surviving are four brothers Henry (Frances) Hagerman of Raysal, WVa., Theodore (Beatrice) Hagerman of Paynesville, WVa., Jimmy (Maria) Hagerman of Jacksonville, FL, and Perry (Nancy) Hagerman of Thomasville, NC; two sisters Tennessee Woods of Bradshaw, WVa., and Clara (Charles) Handshoe of Auburn; 46 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two daughters Madelene Hagerman and Ethelene Hagerman; two sons Mark Hagerman and Jonathan Robert Hagerman; a son-in-law Charles Gross; two grandsons Joshua Hagerman and Joseph Hagerman; and four sisters Barbara Hagerman, Celia Woody, Mae Baker, and Elizabeth Jane Payne. Mr. Hagerman will be taken from the Sheets & Childs Funeral Home in Churubusco to the family residence at 8919 North 450 West, Ligonier, where friends may call after 3 o'clock Tuesday afternoon. The funeral will be held from the residence at 5 p. m. Tuesday with Carl Slone, Elmer Slone, Rusty Slone, and Billy Tuttle, officiating. Final services will be held at 11 a. m. Thursday at the Bright Morning Star Baptist Church (Tom Sparks Cemetery Church) at Paynesville, WVa. Visitation will be at the church after 3 p. m. Wednesday, or prior to the service Thursday morning. There will also be an evening service at the church at 6 p. m. Wednesday.
