Vadis Bailey

Vadis V. Bailey, 91, a resident of Blue Lake near Churubusco and wife of Joseph F. Bailey, died at 5:20 a. m. Sunday, September 16, 2007, at the St. Anne Home in Fort Wayne. She had been in declining heatlh for some time, and had been a patient at the nursing home for nearly three years. Mrs. Bailey was born near Uniondale in Wells County on August 22, 1916, the only child of Archie and Orpha (Wake) Park. In her formative years she lived with her parents in Fort Wayne for a period before the family returned to Wells County. She graduated from Bluffton High School in 1935. On April 21, 1940 she was married in Bluffton to Joseph F. Bailey. The couple spent the early years of their marriage in Fort Wayne before moving to Blue Lkae in 1947. A homemaker, she was a member of the Merriam Christian Chapel. She enjoyed her church, and dearly loved her children and grandchildren. She and her husband enjoyed wintering in Winter Haven, Florida for 27 years, and she will be greatly missed by all who knew her. The surviving relatives include her husband Joe, to whom she was married for over 67 years; two sons Bruce A. (Lois) Bailey and Richard M. Bailey, both of Churubusco; her daughter Barbara (Robert) Konger of Winter Haven, Fla; eight grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 11 a. m. Saturday, September 22, at the Sheets & Childs Funeral Home in Churubusco with Rev. Steve Pulley, associate pastor of the Merriam Christian Chapel, officiating. The family will receive friends at the mortuary on Saturday morning from 9:30 a. m. until the time of the service. Interment will be in the Eel River Cemetery, south of Churubusco. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to the Alzheimer's Association, 9135 N.
