Virginia Owen, 93, a resident of Albion and widow of Clarence Owen, passed away at 5:15 a. m. on Wednesday, December 22, 2010, at Parkview Noble Hospital in Kendallville. Mrs. Owen was born on September 20, 1917 in Whitley County, a daughter of Frank and Clara (Gebert) Deutsch, and moved as a child with her parents to Collins.e She attended the Collins Grade School, and graduated from Churubusco High School in 1935. On July 6, 1940 she was married in South Milford to Clarence Owen, and lived all of her adult life in Noble County.e She had previously worked at Blue Bell in Columbia City, and retired in 1980 from Dana Weatherhead Division in Columbia City after 30 years. She was a member of the Green Center United Methodist Church, UAW Local 1404, and the Weatherhead Pioneer Club. Mr. Owen preceded her in death on February 23, 1985. The surviving relatives include a son Larry (Diane Betz) Owen of Bluffton; her daughter Luana Walker of Albion; a daughter-in-law Judith (Anderson) Owen of Albion; a sister Isabelle Maggart of Columbia City; her grandchildren David (Lisa Cordis Buchhop) Owen of Napoleon, Ohio, Dana Owen of Warsaw, Dawn (Michael) Carter of Stafford, Virg., Sarah Owen of Washington, DC, Julie (Duane) Modlin of Warsaw, North Carolina, and Mark (Rachel Murphy) Owen of Bluffton; two great-grandchildren Kate and Luke Carter of Stafford, Virg; and three step-great-grandchildren Jena (Wade) Campbell of Port Aransas, Tx., and Chris and Sarah Buchhop of Napoleon, Ohio. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son Charles Owen; a stillborn daughter; a son-in-law Riley Walker;e four brothers Lloyd Deutsch, Gerald Deutsch, Virgil Deutsch, and Clifford Deutsch; and three sisters Mabel Henderson, Crystal Shively, and Katherine Nace. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a. m. on Monday, December 27, 2010, at the Green Center United Methodist Church, with Pastor Nancy Fergusson, officiating. The family will receive friends at the Sheets & Childs Funeral Home in Churubusco on Sunday from 2 to 5 p. m., or at the church one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in the Eel River Cemetery, south of Churubusco.
