Wanda Maroney

Wanda Jean Dickes-Genth-Maroney, 88, of Huntertown, passed away on October 31, 2023, at Astral of Auburn. She was born on May 31, 1935, in Eel River Township, Allen County, to the late Paul and DeElda (Gaff) Knafel. She spent her formative years in rural Churubusco and graduated from Huntertown High School in 1953. Wanda was married to Lowell "Dutch" Dickes on January 1, 1954, in Huntertown. He preceded her in death on November 18, 1967. She married Donald L. Genth in Huntertown on February 14, 1969. He preceded her in death on November 28, 1994. She later was married to Richard J. Maroney in Monroeville, on May 12, 1995, he survives. Wanda dedicated her life to her family and her work in the manufacturing industry, where she served as a respected Human Resources professional for Dana Corp, Fort Wayne. She retired in 1997 after 30 years of service. Wanda was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She had a deep love for genealogy and cross-stitching. Wanda will always be remembered as a devoted wife, mother, stepmother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and sister who placed her family above all else. Wanda is survived by her husband, Richard Maroney; her children, Debra Dickes, Duane (Sue) Dickes, Darryl (Laura) Dickes, and David (Susan) Dickes; her eight grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren; her stepchildren, Mark Maroney, Jill Maroney, Becky (Charles) Nichter, and Todd (Kathleen) Maroney; her eight step-grandchildren and eight great-step-grandchildren; her sister, Sandra Elser. In addition to her first two husbands and her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Betty Smith. Friends and family are invited to a public calling on Tuesday, November 7, 2023, from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., at the Sheets & Childs Funeral Home, Huntertown Chapel, located at 16830 Lima Road, Huntertown, Indiana, 46748. A public viewing will follow on Wednesday, November 8, 2023, from 10:00 a.m. to 10:45 a.m., at the Sheets & Childs Funeral Home, Churubusco Chapel, located at 206 North Main Street, Churubusco, Indiana, 46723. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, November 8, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. at St John Bosco Catholic Church, located at 220 North Main Street, Churubusco, Indiana, 46723. Burial will follow at Huntertown Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to Hamilton Health Care or Parkview Hospice. Sheets & Childs Funeral Home has been entrusted with these arrangements.
