Warren S. Hummell, 88, a resident of rural Albion, died on Friday, July 17, 2009, at St. Joseph Hospital in Fort Wayne following a lengthy illness. Mr. Hummell was born on March 16, 1921 in Braddock, Pennsylvania, a son of Samuel H. and Jessie M. [Richey]Hummell, and was married on November 4, 1940 in Cumberland, Maryland to Harriet Weist.e The couple moved to Churubusco in 1984 and lived there until moving to Albion in 1990. He was employed as an electrical inspector for the State of Pennsylvania for 22 years, retiring from there in 1984.e He was a member of the Albion American Legion Post and the Disabled American Veterans. The surviving relatives include the widow Harriet, to whom he was married for over 68 years; his children Wesley [Sharon] Hummell of Albion, Leona H. Sterling of Eighty Four, Penn., Reginald D. Hummell of Tensed, Idaho, and Kenneth W. [Jo] Hummell of Fort Wayne; ten grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren.e In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a half-sister and by three half-brothers. Family graveside services were held on Tuesday, July 21, 2009, at the Rose Hill Cemetery in Albion with interment following. At Mr. Hummell's request, there were no calling hours. Sheets & Childs Funeral Home in Churubusco was in charge of the arrangements.
