William "Billy" Cooper

September 6, 1974 — April 3, 2024

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of William "Billy" Gene Cooper Jr., a loving husband, doting father, and an accomplished carpenter. Born on September 6, 1974, in Madison, Indiana, to parents, Billy Cooper & Sandra Cooper Janson, Billy embraced life with an ambitious spirit and resilience that was infectious to those fortunate enough to be in his company. His life, although too short, was filled with vibrant colors of joy, compassion, and an unending love for his family and friends. Billy was known for his remarkable talent as a skilled carpenter. He was employed by Fetters Construction and a proud member of the carpenter's union, local 232. His work was a testament to his creativity, attention to detail, and ambition. As once quoted by Steve Jobs, "The only way to do great work is to love what you do." Billy's love for his craft was evident in every piece he created. He was known to be incredibly creative, affording him the ability to look at any job or task and make it look even better than it was before. Beyond his professional life, Billy had an array of hobbies that showcased his love for life and adventure. A music enthusiast, a tinkerer, an outdoors lover, and a fan of unique outdoor plants; he truly was a man of many passions. Billy enjoyed water activities such as kayaking and paddleboarding, and in his younger years, he enjoyed skateboarding, breakdancing, and freestyle BMX biking, the latter of which he wished to share with his three-year-old son Liam. Billy also had a love of animals, especially his furbabies, dogs, Opey & Ellie; and cat, Tucker. Despite his many interests, what meant most to Billy was his family. His love for them was boundless and he especially cherished the moments spent with his son Liam and his beloved wife Crystal, whom he married on October 1, 2016. Billy is survived by his mother, Sandra Cooper Janson; wife, Crystal Cooper; their young son, Liam Cooper; children, Bryce (Mahina) Smith, and Aiden Hopperton; three grandchildren; siblings, Misty (Jeff) Coons, Aaron Burress, and Deshane Burress; brother, Tim (Dawn) McEntee; cousin (like a brother), Troy McEntee; brothers-in-law, Jacob (Megan) Ledford, and Nicholas Ledford; many cousins; and numerous nieces and nephews. His pets, Opey, Ellie, and Tucker, also miss his loving presence. Billy was preceded in death by his father, Billy Cooper; and grandparents, Ray & Clara Cooper, and Harland "Bud" & Evelyn Vogts. Public visitation for Billy will be held on Wednesday, April 10, 2024, at Sheets & Childs Funeral Home, Huntertown Chapel, 16830 Lima Road, Huntertown, Indiana, 46748, from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM, followed by a funeral service starting promptly at 2:00 PM. Burial will take place immediately following the funeral at Dutch Ridge Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Taylor Chapel Academy for Liam Cooper's tuition. We encourage you to leave your memories and upload photos to the memorial page, to help us remember Billy's vibrant spirit, his resilience, and the love he had for us all.
