William L. Kimmel, 80, a resident of rural Churubusco in Allen County, passed away early on Saturday, April 2, 2011, in the emergency room at DeKalb Memorial Hospital in Auburn.e He had been taken there from Miller's Merry Manor in Garrett, where he had been a patient since August. Mr. Kimmel was born in Noble County on May 14, 1930, a son of George A. and Effa (Owen) Kimmel.e He spent his formative years in Green Township and graduated from Churubusco High School in 1948. As a young man he served with the U. S. Army during the Korean Conflict, and was married in Churubusco on September 11, 1954 to Bonnie L. Leazier.e The couple have lived all of their married lives near Churubusco in Allen County. Employed as a tool maker, he worked at X-Y Tool & Die in LaOtto for 24 years, retiring from there in 1995.e He was a member of the Avilla American Legion Post. The surviving relatives include his wife Bonnie, to whom he was married for over 56 years; four daughters Lee Ann (Charles) Schortgen of Churubusco, Lisa (Jack) Nicole of Montgomery, Mich., and Lynn Patrick and Lori (Jay) Krueckeberg, both of Churubusco; three sisters Barbara Rider of Larwill, Midge Marshall of Cromwell, and Lalia Hand of Huntington; eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother Edward Kimmel; and by four sisters Fay Lemish, Donna Kimmel, Maxine Collins, and Betty Mote. Funeral services will be held at 10 a. m. on Wednesday, April 6, 2011, at the Sheets & Childs Funeral Home in Churubusco with Pastor Samuel J. Norris, officiating. The family will receive friends from 3 to 8 p. m. on Tuesday at the mortuary. Interment with military graveside rites will be at Riverview Cemetery, south of Churubusco.
