William F. Lutter, 94, of Fort Wayne, passed away on Thursday, February 23, 2023, at Story Point North, Fort Wayne.
He was born in Chicago, IL, on May 25, 1928, to the late William and Fredonna (Yarian) Lutter. He spent his formative years in Huntertown and graduated from Huntertown High School in 1946.
Bill served in the United States Army from 1952 to 1954.
Bill met Della Mae Headford at a Luther League meeting in Albion. Bill was smitten by her as he listened to her sing in the church choir. They married on August 19, 1950, in Fort Wayne.
He worked in the hardware industry for most of his career starting at Schlatter Hardware in 1946. He later worked for Belknap Hardware and retired in 1980. He then worked for Superior Distribution from 1990 until 1993.
Della and Bill were founding members of Messiah Lutheran Church. He was also a member of the Huntertown Masonic Lodge for more than 50 years and belonged to the Scottish Rite in Fort Wayne.
Bill is survived by a son, David (Barbara) Lutter; two daughters, Denise Lutter and Dawn Lutter; a brother, Ralph Lutter; three grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.
In addition to his parents and wife, he is preceded in death by three brothers, Clarence, Jim, and Bob Lutter; a sister Gwen Liggett; a grandson, Chad Lutter.
Funeral services will be held at Sheets & Childs Funeral Home, Huntertown Chapel, on Thursday, March 2, 2023, at 11:00 a.m., with calling one hour prior to service.
The family will also receive family and friends at the funeral home on Wednesday, March 1, 2023, from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
Burial will take place in the Eel River Cemetery, Churubusco.
