Wyman Leslie Schenk, 80, of Huntertown, passed away peacefully on March 18, 2025, at Betz Nursing Home, Auburn.
He was born on February 4, 1945, in Laotto to the late Homer and Ruby (Gump) Schenk. He spent his formative years in LaOtto and graduated from Avilla High School in 1963. He grew up on the family farm where he enjoyed helping his dad farm.
Wyman was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and brother whose passion for life and indomitable spirit touched everyone who knew him. He was united in marriage with his beloved wife, Carol Butler, on December 26, 1965, with whom he shared nearly sixty years of cherished memories.
Wyman Served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War.
Wyman's career as a conductor spanned four decades, first as a Freight Conductor and later as an Amtrak Conductor. He was a proud member of the railroad community and a testament to the hardworking spirit of the Midwest. An avid collector of knives, Wyman also enjoyed camping, traveling the United States, and riding his motorcycle. He especially enjoyed his trips to Mackinac Island. He was a lifetime member of the VFW Huntertown and a member of the GWRRA in Fort Wayne. However, what mattered most to Wyman were his children and grandchildren, who brought him immense joy and pride.
Wyman is survived by his wife, Carol Schenk; his children, Patricia Neuhaus, Mark (Miriam) Schenk, Paula (Scott) Reimers, and Pamela (Victor) Hamor; and his siblings, Roger Schenk and Irma Pensinger; 16 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Barbara Brown; his brother, Gerald Schenk; as well as his son-in-law, Joseph Neuhaus.
Dawn Michelle Ramor deserves special consideration and thanks for the love she shared with Wyman in his final months.
The funeral service will be at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 27, 2025, at Sheets & Childs Funeral Home, Huntertown Chapel, with calling beginning at 2:00 p.m.
